A dreamcatcher, or dream snare, is a handmade object normally made from a wooden loop, on which is woven a loose net or web of imbued sinew. The dreamcatcher is then decorated with sacred items such as feathers and beads. The resulting "dream catcher", hung above the bed, is used as a charm to protect sleeping people from nightmares by sifting the sleepers dreams and in some cases weaving them into something new and beneficial to the dreamer. But beware, there is but a fine line between dreams and nightmares, and a less scrupulous practitioner of the art might find ways to sieve the dreams to leave only nightmares.

This is not a easy skill to learn, first-hand experience of the Spirit World is required to manipulate dreams through the crafting of dream catchers.

Crafting Dream Catchers and the Spirit World

Creating dream catchers requires the use of special strings that are spun from Wispy Cotton. This plant only grows in the Spirit World, a place than can only be reached while sleeping (and only then with the aid of a Brew of Sleeping). The necessary string is then spun from the cotton using a Spinning Wheel.

A comprehensive understanding of the Spirit World is necessary, especially the nightmarish-side, to successfully create Dream Catchers.

Using dream catchers

Dream catchers must be placed on the wall near to the players bed. When the player sleeps though the night and wakes the effect associated with the dream catcher will then be applied as a buff to the player.

Causing nightmares

A Dream Weaver of Nightmares placed near to the bed of a sleeping player will have two effects, firstly when the player wakes they will have a short period of nausea. Secondly, any other dream weavers near by will have their effects become detrimental. A second Dream Weaver of Nightmares will also make the the first cause blindness instead of nausea!
