Spirit World

The spirit world is an alternate reality that mirrors the Overworld in topography. When people dream they often end up in the spirit world without realizing it (often appearing as one of its many denizens). Powerful witches can create Brews of Sleeping that allow them to pass their awake consciousness into the Spirit World, leaving their bodies and gear behind.

The Spirit World is the only source of Wispy Cotton, Disturbed Cotton, Mellifluous Hunger the materials needed to make Dream Weavers. Also Brews of Flowing Spirit can only be made in the Spirit World.

Very few things can pass into, or return from the Spirit World, keep this in mind when heading there (Icy Needle always stay in the inventory). Wispy Cotton, Disturbed Cotton, Mellifluous Hunger and Brews of Flowing Spirit can pass from the Spirit World to the Real World but not the other way.

Two important things to note: Circle magic does not function in the Spirit World; and Endermen cannot enter the Spirit World.

Entering the Spirit World

When a witch enters the Spirit World they will either experience a Dream or a Nightmare (it is almost guaranteed that a nightmare will occur just using a Brew of Sleeping). The world will change depending on the state of the dreamers, if all have nice dreams the world will be daytime, if any have a nightmare it will be night time. Visitors experiencing a nightmare will additionally be chased by a phyiscal embodiment of their Nightmare.

To reduce the chances of a nightmare one can place a Dream Weaver of Nightmares nearby before Sleeping. Having a pool of flowing spirit and Wispy Cotton nearby also helps.

Eating an Apple of Sleeping will also allow entry to the Spirit World, but it will always result in a nightmare.

When a witch enters the spirit world, almost all of their gear will stay behind, being restored when they awaken. Use a chest if this sounds scary!

Returning from the Spirit World

A witch will always return from the Spirit World when they die (without consequence), they may also return earlier by using an Icy Needle on themselves to wake themselves up. Gear from the spirit world will stay there, being replaced by the witches normal gear when they awaken.

If the sleeping body of a witch is killed, this will also force the witch to awaken.

Manifesting as a Ghost

Because the Spirit World so closely resembles the real world, it can be used to the advantage of a cunning witch to enter places in unseen ways. It is possible for a witch that has used the Rite of Manifestation to pass though Spirit Portals that have been created an enter the real world at the same location for a short period of time.

A ghost player can return to the Spirit world using an Icy Needle, when their time expires or if they die.

A ghost player can kill their sleeping body (causing them to awaken).

Making nightmares worse

Entering the spirit world while listening to the beating of Demon Hearts can cause nightmares much worse than usual. A dreamer may notice a somewhat reddish tint to the spirit world sky as well as the presence of fiery rain and the occasional demonic manifestation in addition to the usual nightmarish problems.

To cause a demonic nightmare, a Brew of Sleeping must be drunk near to a Dream Weaver of Nightmares, a Flowing Spirit Pool and a beating Demon Heart. Fire and another heart increases the chance of the nightmare.
