Owl

Owls are not naturally occurring ambient creatures that must be added to the world by mutating them from a pair of other creatures.

Owls can be attracted with a Raw Porkchop or Raw Beef, but will fly off if a player moves.

Owls may be tamed by giving them a Raw Porkchop or Raw Beef. Once tamed an owl will follow its owner, unless instructed to sit by right-clicking on it. The owl can be told to move again by right-clicking on it.

Two tamed owls will breed (producing an owlet) if fed a Raw Porkchop or Raw Beef when they have full health.

A tamed owl can be healed by feeding it a Raw Porkchop or Raw Beef.

A tamed owl's feather color can be changed by using a dye on the owl.

A tamed owl can be turned into a Witch's Familiar by using the Rite of Binding on it and the player.

Owls drop feathers and, occasionally, Owlet's Wing when killed.

Owls are created by mutating a wolf (or dog) with a bat. Catch 2 to 4 bats using a Critter Snare. Place a spider web above a still water block and trap a wolf (or dog) in the spider web. Surround the web on 2 - 4 sides with Critter Snare plants containing a trapped bat. Place Grassper plants on the diagonal corners of the web. Place a charged attuned stone in one of the Grasspers and Mutandis Extremis in the other three. Finally, use a mutating sprig on the web, an Owl will be created for each trapped bat (so 2 - 4). It is probably best to do this, in an enclosed space so they don't just fly off before they can be tamed!

Delivering Items

Tamed Owls can also be used to deliver an item to a location or player. Use the item on a owl to get it to take the item. Next use a Bound Waystone or a Blooded Waystone on the owl, to tell the owl where to go (the Waystone is not consumed when doing this). Finally, if the owl is sitting, stop it sitting. The owl will now fly to the target location, drop off the item, and return back to where it started (and sit).

If the target creature or location is not loaded, the owl will not take flight.

If the target creature or location is more than 128 blocks away, the owl will teleport some of the distance to save some time and reduce the risk of entering an unloaded chunk.

If an owl is given a splash potion or a throwable brew, it will throw its cargo instead of just dropping it.
