Fetishes

A Fetish is an object believed to have supernatural powers. Fetishes can take many forms but the most common in Witchcraft are the Scarecrow, Trent Effigy and Witch's Ladder.

Creating a Fetish

To create a Fetish a witch must first craft the object (Scarecrow, Trent Effigy and Witch's Ladder). Then spectral creatures must be summoned, and finally a Rite of Binding performed to trap the chosen creatures into the object.

The combination of creatures present when the rite of binding is performed determines the powers the Fetish will have. The book, Witchcraft: Conjuration & Fetishes explains the different effects and required bindings.

Fetishes in the Spirit World

It is possible to carry a bound fetish into the Spirit World if the witch has manifested via a Spirit Portal. The witch must just pick up the Fetishes and then return to the Spirit World. The fetishes may never return to the overworld however (at least not by means known to witchcraft).

Fetishes placed in the Spirit World may also materialize it the overworld at the same location. They will have the same effect just be non corporeal. To modify their effects the original in the Spirit World must be changed.

Placing and controlling a Fetish

Once a fetish is placed it will be inactive, using a Boline on it will cycle between its various ways of activation. Using a bound Taglock Kit on the Fetish will make it aware of that being. Using a water bucket on the fetish will clear all taglocks from it.

One of the following activation mods can be chosen:
  • Activate if a player is nearby whose taglock is unknown
  • Activate if a player is nearby whose taglock is known
  • Activate if a player or creature is nearby whose taglock is unknown
  • Activate when some known creatures are nearby
  • Activate when all know creatures are not nearby
  • Deactivated
